E' uno dei più grandi e celebrati reporter del mondo. Nel 1975 realizza la sua prima copertina per il Sunday Times Magazine con il reportage "La Mattanza" . Nel 1980 è uno dei primi reporter a raggiungere l' Afghanistan occupato dai sovietici. percorrendo a piedi con i Mujahiddin oltre 1200 chilometri. Tra il 1982 e il 1983 realizza a Napoli un reportage sulla camorra che verrà pubblicato in tutto il mondo. da Epoca a Stern da Life a Zeit Magazine. Nel 1983 è inviato da Epoca sul fronte Libanese per un reportage sul conflitto interno all'OLP tra i pro siriani di Abu Mussa e i sostenitori di Arafat. E' l'unico fotogiornalista a documentere la caduta del campo profughi di Beddawi. ultima roccaforte di Arafat. Dal 1984 inizia il suo lavoro nei territori occupati sulle condizioni del popolo Palestinese. Dall'inizio della prima intifada (1987-88) al 1994. resta ferito tre volte durante gli scontri. Nel 2002 riesce ad entrare e a raccontare il campo profughi d Jenin sotto coprifuoco e. successivamente. quello di Bethlehem. Nel 1989 è inviato dal Venerdi di Repubblica di nuovo in Afghanistan. ancora clandestinamente. per raccontare la ritirata Sovietica.Nel 1990 è tra i primi reporter in Arabia Saudita durante lo sbarco dei Marines USA dopo l'invasione del Kuwait. Resterà in zona fino all'epilogo della prima guerra del Golfo nel marzo 1991.A più riprese è presente nell'area Balcanica. dalla Bosnia al Kossovo. durante i vari conflitti interetnici. all'Albania. In Italia segue i fatti di Mafia e Camorra così come aspetti sociali vari come. ad esempio il Palio di Siena. Negli ultimi anni il suo obiettivo è puntato sulla Sardegna al di fuori degli itinerari turistici. Numerosi i premi e i riconoscimenti a lui dedicati. compresi due World Press Photo.

Francesco Cito is one of the greatest and most celebrated photo-journalists in the world. In 1975 he did his first front cover for the Sunday Times Magazine, with his "Mattanza" (tuna-fishing) story. In 1980 he was one of the first journalists to enter Russian-occupied Afghanistan, travelling more than 1200 km. with the Mujahaddin. From 1982 to 1983 he shot a story on the Camorra in Naples which was published across the world from Epoca to Stern, Life to Zeit magazine. In 1983 he was sent to the Lebanese front by Epoca, for a reportage on the internal struggle within the PLO between the pro-syrians under Abu Massa and the supporters of Arafat. He was the only photo-journalist to document the fall the Beddawi refugee camp, Arafat's last bastion. In 1984 he began working in the occupied territories, reporting on the conditions of the Palestinian people. Between the beginning of the first Intifada (1987-1988) and 1994 he was wounded three times during action. In 2002 he got into the Jenin refugee camp to tell the story of life under curfew, and subsequently also the Bethlehem camp. In 1989 he was sent clandestinely by Venerdì di Republica to Afghanistan again, to report on the Soviet withdrawal. In 1990 he was one of the first reporters in Saudi Arabia during the landing of American marines after the invasion of Kuwait. He stayed in the zone until the end of the first Gulf War in March 1991. He went to the Balkan region several times - Bosnia, Kosovo, Albania - during the various ethnic conflicts. In Italy he continued to follow the Mafia and the Camorra as well as various social activities such as the Palio di Siena. In recent years he was pointed his lens at Sardinia, in places away from tourist routes. He has had great recognition and been awarded many prizes, including two World Press Photo awards.
